What season: Year round

Tour highlight: Wine and gin tasting

In December 2005  the Mathews family acquired the long-established Hopelands Vineyard located in the pristine Margaret River wine region. During 2006 the vineyard was rejuvenated, requiring many hours of physical labour. The vines were cut right back and re-trellised, resulting in a consequent reduction in yield and significant rise in wine quality.

The After Hours harvest is around 30 tonnes of fruit each year, from which  approximately 2500 cases of premium wine are produced. The vineyard consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (2.6 ha), Shiraz (1.6 ha), Merlot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay (1.1 ha each). The majority of the wine is sold through cellar door, online and into the domestic market.

After Hours Wine is a family owned and run business. The winemaking is very much a ‘hands on’ approach from the vineyard to the bottle. The vineyard is managed and maintained by Warwick, Cherylyn and their children with wine making by Phil Potter.

Phil has been involved in the wine industry since 1996, working numerous years at Cape Vale Wines and Leeuwin Estate before joining After Hours Wine full time in 2011. Phil’s attention to detail and continued quest for perfection are reflected in the standard and quality of our wines seen today.
